For several years of my life I struggled to find an answer when someone asked me the question, “What is your life’s purpose?” I would often reply with something like “to make a lot of money”, but the truth was, I really didn’t know. It wasn’t until I had an enlightened, out-of-body experience that transformed my understanding and gave me laser focus as to why I was put here on this earth.
A little history…
Growing up, I had moments when I felt there was something different about me. One of these moments was in high school English class. My teacher gave us an assignment to fill out a personal survey, and afterward he planned to anonymously read aloud some of our answers. One of the questions on the survey was “What are your two favorite television programs?” The most common answer was The Cosby Show, which was the highest rated program on television at the time. However, my answers were Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and 20/20.
It was an honest answer. When those programs came on you’d have to literally hit me in the head to pry me away from the TV. What I discovered was that those were odd choices for a 15 year old kid.
I can see Mr. Megalizi now as he sat on the corner of his desk, thumbing through the stack of papers in his hand. “Seems the majority of you wrote down The Cosby Show“, he said. Then he stopped almost in mid-sentence, scrunching his eyebrows together as if to say “Hmm, that’s odd”. “One of you wrote down Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and 20/20″. The class burst out in laughter, and in the chuckles I could even hear someone say “What a nerd!” At the time, I was too embarrassed to admit that those were my answers.
An odd way to find your life’s purpose
It wasn’t until many years later, when I was watching a video by Empower Network’s co-founder David Wood, that I had a revelation of my life’s purpose. David’s brother is a hypnotist, who taught him about a cognitive process called transderivational search where you can use leading statements that cause a person’s mind to search for a contextual meaning. For instance, if I said “Where were you yesterday?”, your mind can’t help but to think about what you were doing yesterday. In hypnosis, you can use this fundamental part of human language to bring forth buried thoughts from the subconscious mind.
In the video, David puts us in an hypnotic state and tells us to remember the first moment when we knew our purpose. My mind subconsciously went back to that classroom incident I spoke about early. It was through a transderivational search that I discovered my reason for choosing Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous and 20/20 as my two favorite television programs.
Lifestyles was about people who had achieved success. Whether that success came from owning a business or being a celebrity, the featured people where able to live a life of luxury that many of us can only imagine. I made this my favorite show because I wanted that lifestyle. A life of freedom…
20/20 on the other hand, would feature compelling stories about humanity. People overcoming adversities, people going through struggles, and people helping people. This was the real stuff that 90% of the rest of us were going through.
By watching those shows I saw both the good and bad in mankind. It made me want to be a positive contributor to society by helping people solve problems. Little did I know that’s what I would be doing for over 20 years of my life.
That moment when you say “Aha! I get it now!”
When David asked the question it made those 20 years flashed before my eyes, and I began to cry like a baby. I was living out my life’s purpose all along and didn’t realize it. My purpose is to free people’s mind from the matrix and to show them that they can live an above average lifestyle, or at best without mediocrity and lack. This was the principle by which I modeled my music business with which I empowered independent musicians with the tools and resources that they need to be successful in the music business. This was the reason that I joined several network marketing groups and home-based business opportunities. I wanted to teach people how to save money, how to managed their finances, and how to live a healthy lifestyle. I could go on and on but, I think you get the point. It seemed as though ever decision I had made in my 42 years on this earth was all in alignment with my life’s purpose. Finding my own success through helping other people become successful.
Finding your life’s purpose
Now, that I’ve found my life’s purpose, a flame within me has been reignited. I can envision how wonderful my life would be if I lived the lifestyle of a rich and famous person. I can see myself raising people up out of the trenches and guiding them to their success. I am laser-focused and passionate about my life’s purpose and want to help as many people as I can achieve their dreams.
