I witnessed a miracle today!
A little over a year ago, my mother had a stroke that left her paralyzed in 85% of her body. Since then, she has been bed ridden, and requires 24 hour assisted care.
The stroke also took her ability to swallow, and therefore in order to eat, she had to have a feeding tube inserted directly into her stomach.
As if this weren’t enough, she is also suffering with dementia.
I have been her primary caregiver since January of this year. You can imagine the challenges I have faced in taking care of someone with such limited abilities.
I have had to make many sacrifices in my personal life to ensure that she is being well taken care of.
I’m not one to put my personal business out to the world, but I felt that it was necessary because of the miracle that I witnessed today.
Today, my mother awoke as if she was realizing for the first time that she had a stroke. She couldn’t understand why she wasn’t able to get out of bed.
I tried my best to explain to her that this did not just happen over night, but she did not believe me.
She told me that she was hungry, so I set up her automatic feeding machine. “No!”, she said. “I want some real food!”
To that I gave her a little of the steamed vegetables that I had made for myself. She ate them with no problem.
“I want more!”, she demanded.
So I gave her more and more and more. She wanted me to make her some tuna, so I did…
She ate it as if nothing was wrong with her swallowing.
I realized what I was witnessing right before my eyes was the power of God at work.
This is a small step to a much bigger challenge ahead, but my faith has been restored that ALL things are possible in God’s hands.
